“THE ART OF SECURITY”
At Avant Garde Bar, from 8pm to 2am
Do security cameras and encrypted passwords make you feel safer? Who’s watching you, and how does this constant surveillance affect your daily life? Three internationally acclaimed contemporary artists respond to these provocative questions during Ottawa’s Nuit Blanche.
“The Art of Security” is a public event featuring the work of performance artist Ricardo Dominguez (University of California, San Diego, USA), photographer Paul Shambroom (University of Minnesota, USA) and video documentarian Cynthia Weber (Sussex University, UK).
The Art of Security installation is the closing event of Security and its Publics: Issues, Mediators, Politics, a two-day workshop that is bringing together scholars, activists, lawyers, artists and other mediators to collect experiences and knowledge about experiments in making security issues more fully public (Carleton University, Dept of Sociology and Anthropology).
On the evening of September 22nd, grab a beer and explore how secure you actually feel in today’s electronically monitored world. Artists in attendance.
