The Nuit Blanche Ottawa team wishes Stefan St-Laurent much success

Ottawa ON, May 16 2012 – Guest Curator of Ottawa’s first Nuit Blanche Ottawa stepped down from his position yesterday. The Nuit Blanche team is disappointed to see him go. We wish him every success with his future endeavors.

With a growing list of new local partners and the incredibly successful Open Call which has drawn artists from across Canada and abroad to join the local community of creatives- the rapidly approaching event is shaping up. The preliminary list of participants is set to be released in the next couple of weeks and the curatorial team of Megan Smith and Lainie Towell are looking to September with excitement.

April 13 2012 > Fundraising kicks into high gear for Ottawa’s first-ever all-night art show—Nuit Blanche

Ottawa, April 13, 2012 — Fundraising is kicking into high gear for Ottawa’s first Nuit Blanche! In exactly six months, on Saturday, September 22, 2012, thousands of people will throng the Byward Market and Hintonburg for the one-night, all-night arts extravaganza that has become a worldwide phenomenon.

The Ontario Trillium Foundation has provided start-up funding, and partnerships for art spaces in the two neighbourhoods are being forged.

Three Canadian renowned curators are now selecting the visual artists who will make this an exhibition like no other, with performances, new media, street art, video installations, and interdisciplinary art—a passionate manifestation of our community’s creativity, cohesion and dreams.

The Nuit Blanche team, led by some of Ottawa’s leading artists and administrators, is offering star-studded opportunities for sponsorship of this first-ever Ottawa Nuit Blanche. Sponsors will be joining the community in the network of all-night arts events that has already captivated millions in all the G8 capitals as well as other cities in Canada and worldwide.

Life is Beautiful

An ode to life, the first edition of Nuit Blanche Ottawa will present a spectacular array of visual, media and performance art from the National Capital region and around the world, paying homage to the incredible creative human spirit. In the darkest of times, artists have been able to shine light where there was none; capable of reimagining the world as a perfect place where peace, love and equality reigns for all. An exhibition like no other, incorporating performances, new media, street art, video installations, and interdisciplinary art, Nuit Blanche Ottawa will be a passionate manifestation of our collective hopes and dreams.

Life is Beautiful will bring together diverse artists who will interpret in their own unique way the beauty and dignity of human life. Can artists positively influence how we perceive the world, and each other? Can art propogate better understanding, change and progress?

For this first edition of Nuit Blanche Ottawa, we call upon artists to submit projects that encourage community development, interaction, collaboration, celebration and commemoration. Works can be political or personal, grandiose or intimate, educational or playful – all we require is that projects be positive, hopeful and life-affirming. As thousands upon thousands of visitors converge in Ottawa’s growing cultural districts for an all-nighter of art and exchange, let us take this opportunity to celebrate the transformative power of art and the creative human spirit that binds us all.
